AWARD: Cooling Partitions win Green GOOD DESIGN Award
Stefan Al and Virginia Tech collaborator Brook Kennedy have received the 2025 Green Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for their research project Evaporative Cooling Partitions—a series of interlocking, 3D-printed clay columns that revive ancient evaporative-cooling techniques to cut reliance on air-conditioning. The prototypes, developed with graduate students and tested in FLIR thermal studies, showed promising temperature drops while using only water and porous ceramics.
